Description
Everyone who was in the Austrian army or is an AUG owner knows the problem of the front sling attachment. The sling normally covers the charging handle, making handling difficult. It is possible to improvise a solution to this problem by moving the belt from the front attachment to the lower right under the receiver. A real solution to this problem is the KaWaTec QD PIN. It is positioned so that the belt can be attached at the front below the charging handle with a Quick Detach sling swivel (9.5 mm). This means that the belt no longer covers the charging handle. The QD PIN also has an anti-rotation feature.
There are 2 mounting methods, one Fast and one Gentle.
THE FAST ASSEMBLY METHOD: This method does not require disassembling anything on the AUG. You simply drive the QD PIN from the left side through the hole of the barrel grip pin. It is best to use a soft-face hammer to avoid scrapes. The original barrel grip pin is driven out on the other side. Then just put the nut on and tighten it until the QD PIN can no longer be turned. While tightening the nut, it is best to insert a QD sling swivel (9.5mm) into the bushing and rotate until you like the positioning of the sling swivel. As always, we recommend the use of a threadlocker (e.g. LOCTITE 243 or 648) for threaded connections. In the front of the thread, the QD PIN will probably get a few light scuffs with this assembly method, but the nut will hide that.
THE SAFE MOUNTING METHOD: This requires removing the foregrip, which takes much longer. Disassembly is simple. Use a punch tool to drive the original barrel handle pin out of the hole, but be careful to hold the cover of the barrel handle, otherwise it will fly away along with the spring. Now put the spring back into the handle and push it up and turn it so that it can’t block anything in the hole for the barrel handle pin. Then insert the handle into its place and push the QD PIN through the hole from the left. Now put on the nut and tighten it a little. Now pull down the spring of the handle, preferably with a suitable punch, and hook the cover into place. Then you only need to tighten the nut until the QD PIN can no longer be turned. While tightening the nut, it is best to insert a QD sling swivel (9.5mm) into the bushing and rotate until you like the positioning of the sling swivel. As always, we recommend the use of a threadlocker (e.g. LOCTITE 243 or 648) for threaded connections.
